In the High North of the Netherlands, where the land ends and the sea meets you, there's an endless play between sea and land. A vast area, the 'Wadden', is changing there in every hour, every minute and every second, constantly moving. In this area you'll find a number of islands, tirelessly holding their ground between the roughness of nature. Sieged by storms, flooded with pouring water and showered in rays of sunlight. In the midst of it, the most northwesterly tip of the Netherlands lies the pearl of the Dutch islands, Terschelling.
This long-bodied islands is a perfect mixture of everything the 'Wadden' have to offer. In broad lines over the length of the island, like the stripes of a rainbow, tidal beaches, green fields, cozy villages, forrests, dunes and the wide open beaches of the North Sea color the island.
Only a small part of this island is inhabited. Both ends feature kilometers of nature, of which the most eastern ten kilometers 'De Bosplaat' is an internationally renowned nature reserve because of the unspoiled ruggedness of nature. In the villages, which hold together like a string of houses, the atmostphere is however boiling with social life, which makes the contrast with the silent nature around it only bigger. There's something for everybody. Sunlovers have an unequaled space on the widest beaches of Europe. Waterlovers are never let down by the right combination of wind, water and waves. Social creatures can enjoy the warmth of the island spirit and the ever present holidayfeeling, and naturelovers can wear out a good pair of shoes without getting bored. But also the extensive culture, history, the better than average weather, the little shops and much more is there to enjoy on Terschelling.
In one of the best locations on this ideal vacation island you'll find the H2O Hostel. On the edge of grassy fields, forests, villages and dunes lies this unique place to stay. There's not much standard to the H2O Hostel. First of all the building; a big hall. At first sight not the most obvious place. But who looks beyond that sees the beauty about it: beautiful views and an overwhelming silence.
The hall is the 'manege' on Terschelling. The dictionary describes it as follows: technical: A riding school would describe it the best and it shares the hall with the H2O Hostel. The bar in the H2O Hostel therefor one of the most 'farmy' views imaginable. On one side a big row of windows looking out on the terrace and the soon-to-be garden, with behind that endless fields of nature. The other side has another row of windows overlooking great space in the hall where the riding school trains and the stables.Should you come from a city, then you'll lose that city-feeling in no time!
The approach may also be different from what you're used to . We offer you beautiful rooms for a cheap price, but we can only do that when you keep the room clean yourself during your stay. We believe it won't be a problem to use the same bedsheets for a week, so we will change them only when guests leave or if you stay longer than a week and we think you'll manage perfectly to tidy the bed yourself during that week. You won't need us to do that for you, right? For the rest everything is present in the room for a relaxed stay. Good beds, good showers and a relaxed atmosphere. For the more exciting relaxation we have a bar and a shared living room with a billiard, dartboard, tv, fireplace, couches, a book shelf and music. The only time we're closed is from twelve to eight at night and at sunday mornings, when another unusual feature comes up. We very much like to have a church service at the bar at sunday mornings. Join us, or stay asleep, but you're warned! ;)
So, if you don't like standard vacations, but you do like originality and truely enjoying yourself... welcome!
